China's coal output may reach 3.6 bln tons by 2015

China's coal output is expected to reach 3.6 billion tons by the end of the 12 th Five-Year Plan period or 2015, the China Securities Journal quoted He Youguo, a representative from the China Coal Industry Research and Development Center.

Large mines with the output capacity of 1.2 million tons and above will produce 2.2 billion tons of coal, accounting for 60% of the total 3.6 billion tons, while mines with the output capacity of 300,000 tons and above will produce 1 billion tons of coal, accounting for 30% of the total. Mines with output capacity below 300,000 tons will produce 400 million tons of coal.

During the 12 th Five-Year Plan period, China will shift its focus on the construction of modern large-scale mines from that of medium-and large-scale mines. Output capacity of newly-built and transformed mines in Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, Xinjiang should be more than 1.2 million tons. Furthermore, China will improve the technology of mining to expand output.

China saw its coal output rise 13.4% year on year to 284 million tons in May, China Knowledge reported earlier.
