How to Control the Fineness Modulus of Manufactured Sand

Release time:2026-05-21

45

The fineness modulus is a key technical index to evaluate the quality of manufactured sand, directly affecting the workability, strength and durability of concrete. Controlling it within the standard range requires scientific technical measures, specifically as follows:

  1. 1. Clarify the Standard Range of Fineness Modulus

  • The national standard divides manufactured sand into three grades: coarse sand (fineness modulus 3.7-3.1), medium sand (3.0-2.3) and fine sand (2.2-1.6).

  • For general concrete engineering, medium sand (fineness modulus 2.3-3.0) is preferred; for high-strength concrete, coarse sand with good gradation is suitable.

  1. 2. Adjust the Crushing and Screening Process

  • Optimize the tertiary crushing parameters: Adjust the VSI crusher speed and discharge gap to control the proportion of fine powder and coarse particles.

  • Equip multi-layer vibrating screens: Use 3-4 layers of screens to classify sand particles into different specifications, ensuring reasonable gradation.

  • Add a sand washing process: Wash away excess fine powder (particle size <0.075mm) to adjust the fineness modulus.

  1. 3. Control the Raw Material and Equipment Factors

  • Raw material selection: Choose raw stones with uniform hardness and particle shape to avoid excessive fine powder caused by over-crushing.

  • Wear part maintenance: Regularly replace worn VSI crusher throw head and vibrating screen meshes to ensure stable crushing and screening efficiency.

  • Adjust the feeding speed: Stable feeding can avoid uneven particle size caused by overloading or underloading.

  1. 4. Real-Time Detection and Adjustment

  • Conduct regular sampling inspection: Test the fineness modulus of manufactured sand every 2 hours to monitor changes in real time.

  • Timely adjust parameters: If the fineness modulus is too high (too coarse), reduce the crusher discharge gap; if it is too low (too fine), increase the gap or reduce the washing time.
